The FBI has released its annual report on Crime in the United States. African Americans are consistently rated as more violence-prone than any other American racial or ethnic group. That includes Hispanics, Whites, Native Americans, and others. This belief has been around for decades, and whites and African-Americans themselves hold this narrative.
Among homicide victims in 2019, where the race was known, 54.7% were black or African-American, 42.3% were white, and 3.1% were of other races. According to the FBI, African-Americans accounted for 55.9% of all homicide offenders in 2019, with whites 41.1% and “Other” 3.0% in cases where the race was known.
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, Asians are also the most likely to be victimized in violent crimes. This statistic may surprise you, but it’s true. The FBI tracks these statistics, showing that Asian Americans are more than twice as likely to be victims of a violent crime than any other race or ethnicity except African Americans. It doesn’t matter what their age is either. Asians of all ages are at risk of being attacked or robbed on the street.
According to the latest Crime Survey for England and Wales, men from Mixed ethnic backgrounds (21%) were more likely to be victims of crime than men from any other ethnic group. The survey also found that women with a Mixed background had higher violent crime rates than White British. This trend was also seen among people living in London, where people with mixed ethnicity reported high levels of violence.
