ENCINITAS —

Two men were arrested earlier this month after sheriff’s deputies were called to investigate a report of “multiple dead bodies” at an apartment in Encinitas and instead found a cache of illegal weapons and drugs, the Sheriff’s Department said this week.

The weapons included multiple assault rifles, suppressors, brass knuckles and body armor, sheriff’s Lt. Christopher Lawrence said in a statement Thursday. Deputies also found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, Lawrence said.

Sheriff’s deputies received a call about 11 a.m. Jan 9 reporting that a man found several bodies in his apartment on Carol View Drive near Birmingham Drive, Lawrence said.

The deputies did not find any bodies, but instead recovered multiple the weapons that violated state and federal firearms laws, Lawrence said. Detectives obtained a search warrant and seized 28 firearms, silencers, body armor and drugs.

Deputies arrested one of the two men who lived in the apartment the same day as the warrant search, Lawrence said. His roommate, who allegedly owned the guns, was arrested Thursday.

Both men were booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of various drug and illegal firearmsLawrence said

Sheriff’s officials asked that anyone with information about the incident call the department at (858) 565-5200.
