A 60-year-old man who was stabbed and found in the parking lot of a San Marcos business last week has died, the county Sheriff’s Department said Friday.
The victim died Monday, two days the attack, homicide Lt. Chris Steffen said.
He identified the victim as Martin Mendoza, a resident of San Marcos.
On Jan. 7, deputies responded to a report of a stabbing and found the Mendoza in a parking lot on West San Marcos Boulevard near Pico Avenue. He was bleeding from his torso.
Mendoza was taken to a hospital, where he died Jan. 9.
After the stabbing, deputies identified the suspect as Dahlia Perez, 23. They found Perez a few blocks away and arrested her on suspicion of attempted murder.
“The relationship between Mendoza and Perez is still unknown,” Steffen said. “The motivation and circumstances are under investigation.”
After Mendoza died, Perez was rebooked into jail on suspicion of murder.
