An 18-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday on suspicion of carjacking after sheriff’s deputies found a stolen Honda backed into a garage in an unincorporated area near El Cajon.
The car’s owner called 911 around 6:55 p.m. Monday to report his Honda had been taken by three people, one of whom pointed an unknown item at him that possibly was a gun, said sheriff’s Lt. David Collins. The carjacking occurred in front of an apartment complex on East Bradley Avenue. No one was injured.
Deputes ended up locating the stolen vehicle several hours later less than a mile away in a garage on East Bradley. Collins did not know how deputies located the vehicle.
Three people were standing near the vehicle as deputies arrived, Collins said. Initially, the three complied with deputy commands, but then two of them ran away.
Deputies set up a perimeter and searched an apartment complex with an ASTREA helicopter assisting. An airsoft pellet gun was recovered and one suspect was arrested. Two other people were also contacted, but neither was arrested, Collins said.
