A 23-year-old man was killed Tuesday night in a drive-by shooting in Encanto, San Diego police officials said.
The victim was walking on Akins Street near 62nd Street about 9:15 p.m. when a vehicle pulled up alongside him and someone inside opened fire, San Diego homicide Lt. Steve Shebloski said.
Officers found the man lying on a sidewalk, suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body, Shebloski said. The victim died before he could be taken to a hospital. He has been identified, but his name won’t be released until his family has been notified.
It’s unclear what led to the shooting. Homicide detectives are searching the area for physical evidence and surveillance video of the incident. No suspect information was immediately available.
