| WISEPlace has a long and rich 85 year history in the County of providing care and concern for women, children and families. Located in the city of Santa Ana, WISEPlace was founded in 1924 as the South Orange County YWCA. In 1987, in response to the growing number or homeless women in the county, the agency launched a successful $1.1 million campaign to open the Hotel for Women, its flagship program today. Since inception, The Hotel for Women has served over 6,500 residents. Our mission is to provide programs that inspire, support and empower women to become contributing members of the community. | ||||||||||

Our programs are designed to serve four groups of women: Steps to Independence serves women who are victims of domestic violence, recovering from drug or alcohol abuse, have survived a traumatic experience or who have been referred by an emergency shelter program. “Steps” works with women who have experienced a devastating financial reversal. Residents are given safe and affordable meals and housing. Program services include case management, employment assistance, financial literacy training, clothing, transportation, individual and group counseling and referrals to other community resources. First Step serves one of the fastest-growing homeless populations in our community – young women who are emancipated from the foster care system at age eighteen. They are turned out without a support system, family or survival skills, and have a greater than 50% chance of becoming homeless in the first year. First Step provides the services of Steps to Independence with the addition of more intensive life-skills training, mentoring, and support with continuing education. Senior Step provides solutions to the health and job related challenges facing women who are over 55 and homeless. Senior Step provides the services of Steps to Independence as well as assistance to program participants to create a safe and secure future for themselves. Positive Step provides continued “Second Stage” housing for WISEPlace graduates for up to 2 years, continuing their transition back to self sufficiency. These women are considered to have been chronically homeless with a contributing condition such as mental illness or drug abuse. All residents continue to receive case management while in the Positive Step program. This residential facility can serve five women at a time. |
