Organization Name
HOMES, Inc.

Organization Mission
To provide safe, decent, affordable housing and high quality support services to low-income adults recovering from mental illness, including those who are homeless.

Main Services Provided

HOMES is the only provider of permanent supportive housing for homeless adults with mental illness in Orange County. The County of Orange included two HOMES projects, Jackson Aisle Apartments and Cypress House, as models of successful supportive housing in their Mental Health Services Act Plan. The first MHSA funds for housing in OC will be used for construction and supportive services for Diamond Aisle Apartments, scheduled to open in 2009. As part of the social and recreational services provided for residents, HOMES operates their annual Mountain Respite Camp for mental health clients each May.

Accomplishments

HOMES, an acronym for “Helping Our Mentally Ill Experience Success,” provides supportive transitional and permanent independent housing for adults recovering from mental illness in Orange County. We have six houses in Anaheim, Fullerton, and Orange, one apartment building in Midway City, and we are building another apartment in Anaheim scheduled to open in early 2009.

Greatest Needs

Besides our two annual fund-raising events, a wine-makers dinner each fall and a golf tournament each spring, HOMES relies on contributions and donations to provide safe, attractive, affordable housing and high-quality supportive services for residents. We benefit most from donations of unrestricted funds, but also appreciate monetary contributions for specific projects or services. HOMES can utilize in-kind donations of cleaning supplies, linens, and household appliances in good condition. We welcome volunteer assistance in organizing our fund-raising events.
